Probe Christian Role in Swami Murder: Hindu Rally
MYSORE (ICNS): Pro-Hindu organizations held a rally in Mysore on Friday demanding investigation into the alleged Christian role in the murder of Sawmi Laxmanananda Saraswati, which sparked off the anti-Christian violence in Orissa.
Pejawar Math, which Shri Vishvesha Teertha Swamiji heads, organized the rally and sit-in in the city jointly with several Hindu organizations.
Speakers at the rally said a section of the media was carrying on the "one-sided propaganda" that aided Christians. They also accused the government of not acting against the murderers of the Swami.
They saw involvement of local Christian groups and their collusion with local terrorist groups in the murder. They said such connections have been largely brushed aside and there was a sustained effort to protect the real perpetrators of the murder.
In a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister said entire country was anguished by the ghastly murder of the venerable Hindu saint and four of his disciples.
It said the Swami, a “devoted ascetic” spent his 42 years to uplift the poor and the backward tribal people in the area, by providing them education, better healthcare and knowledge of scientific farming.
“The heinous murder of such a prominent Hindu saint and several other religious leaders have been pushed to a corner as if it were a non-event, and a grossly exaggerated portrayal of the subsequent events occupied major space in the media,” it said.
The Hindus groups are “aghast at the one-sided and insensitive propaganda in the last couple of months by a section of the media," it said.
The memorandum said it was “most unfortunate that in this land of Dharma, our Dharma gurus are becoming targets of anti-national and anti-Hindu forces, while the Governments remain spectators."
