PUNE: A hostel building for students from the north eastern states

staying in the city will be inaugurated by RSS chief K Sudarshan on Sunday.
The building, 'Bharat Mata Bhavan', has been constructed by the Rashtriya
Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Speaking to media on Wednesday, Poonam Mehta, secretary of RSS Jankalyan
Samiti Purvanchal Vikas, said Sudarshan will later address a meeting at the
Ramkrishna More auditorium in Chinchwad. "RSS had begun operating a hostel
for students from the north eastern states in Chinchwad about eight years
back, through the Tatya Bapat Smruti Samiti. It operates from a rented
premise and accommodated 38 students. The new building has been constructed
through donations from well-wishers," said Mehta.

"The building is located at the Devghar society in Pimpri-Chinchwad Link
road. Around 5,000 sq ft plot of land was bought one year back and a
three-storied building has been constructed on the plot. The ground floor is
for parking. First floor has a hall that can be used by students and can
also be rented out for other programmes. The second floor has the hostel
which will house 14 students. Four of them are studying in Std XI while
others are studying in schools," she said.

She said that education, medical or transport facilities were not available
in many parts of the north-east. RSS workers stationed there bring selected
students to the RSS-run hostels in different parts of the country for
education.
